Defence Mechanisms  How to avoid pesky microbes in a public bathroom 1. Choose the  first stall.  This one tends to be used least, most likely because people feel it offers the least privacy. The corner stall is the most popular and therefore the germiest. 2.  Get out fast.  When you flush surrounding air briefly becomes a soup of swirling viruses and bacteria.  Ideally use your elbow (or even foot) to flush that  toilet instead of your hands. 3.  Sing “Happy Birthday”  twice to make sure you wash your hands long enough. Hot water doesn’t kill more germs, so use comfortably lukewarm water instead. 4.  Paper it.  Use a paper towel on the faucet and door handle so you won’t undo all of the germ warfare you just finished.
